The Thorn Within the Rose
The Lost is the symbol of everything humans fear and hate. Worshiping him, even the accusation of worship, is a death sentence for a human. One of the only well known facts surviving about The Roses is that The Lost was a Rose before he became a deity. His ascension to godhood was a gluttonous feast of the reigning pantheon, consuming all his rivals until Orrt and Us alone stood against him. Using their remaining power, they banned The Lost from their child, Orrthus. The lock was successful, banning necromancy, his name, and all memory of him before his monstrous ascension, save for one place: Canto. The might of Orrt and Us was not enough to cleanse the ritual he performed to gain his powers, leaving the South Pole a necropolis, the only place where necromancy and undeath reign supreme.
The Lost consumed immortality itself at the heart of Canto, drinking all the gods into himself before he was stopped. The human gods, dying, imparted their priests with the knowledge needed to manufacture short term immortality in altars, a half measure that survives to this day.
The Lost is now the most powerful and least powerful of the gods. While truly immortal, no memory of him exists outside of Canto, and his magic functions only there. However, every human is at his mercy, as are their gods. Dreams and memories are his only ability to affect Orrthus directly outside of Canto, both existing on a half plane both part of and seperate from Orrthus itself. His clerics are trained to enter lucid dreams to speak with their god, and a favorite ability of theirs is to put their victims to sleep, tampering with memories or outright possessing them. Undead are his sacred creatures, each considered blessed and anointed personally by his magic, and only to be used as weapons in the gravest of circumstances. The Lost is depicted as an empty black cloak, often consuming everything around it. His favored weapon is the sickle. His domains are Death, Knowledge, Destruction, Trickery, Chaos, Evil, Madness, and Darkness. The Lost is Chaotic Evil.
